  28. OK, people... This is going to be all you need to know about
  29. PC-Pursuit and how to use it to the fullest extent without
  30. paying for it.
  31.  
  32. First let's look at what we need to know:

  39. Let's look at them one at a time, shall we?

  41. *)> 1 - Functions of PC-Pursuit <(*

  43. Basically, PC-Pursuit is a subsidiary of Telenet, which is a
  44. subsidiary of U.S. Sprint (ugh!).
  45. What PC-Pursuit is is a chain of modems that a registered
  46. user can access to make long-distance calls for only $25 a
  47. month.
  48. Sounds great, doesn't it? Of course, but there ARE some
  49. catches, of course.
  50. Namely that you have do ONLY calls via modem, no voice.
  51. And that all calls must be made between 6pm (local time) and
  52. 7 am, lest you get some hefty surcharges.

  54. BUT, my friends, there is a way that you can use PC-Pursuit
  55. for less that the flat $25 a month... Namely for FREE...
  56. Which brings us to number 2...

  60. Now, there are two ways to get around the fees. The easy way
  61. (laden with risks), and the hard way (fewer risks)
  62.  
  63. Let's look at them one at a time.
  64.  
  65. The EASY way to hack an account on PC-Pursuit isn't even
  66. hacking, really...
  67. When you call the PC-Pursuit main bulletin board (more on
  68. that later), you can sign up for PC-Pursuit. BUT you need a
  69. major credit card...
  70. Again, we have two choices for this.
  71. We can either enter a bullshit credit card number with the
  72. proper format and a phoney name, or a valid credit card
  73. number that isn't your own...
  74. Either way, you have to give them YOUR address, unless you
  75. have a P.O. Box or a mailbox at a private company or another
  76. location.
  77. They will send you a packet an a week to 10 days, and then
  78. you can just go fucking nuts calling all the PC-Pursuitable
  79. cities (25 at last count).
  80.  
  81. That is the easy way... I told you it was risky...
  82.  
  83. The HARD way is to actually hack out someone's code on a
  84. Telenet system (a complete national listing of all local
  85. Telenet access numbers is available on this board).
  86.

  88. When you log on to Telenet, you see NOTHING.. Press ENTER
  89. twice. Simple, eh?
  90. Next you see the first prompt from Telenet, 'TERMINAL='
  91.  
  92. Press Enter or type VT100, VT52, Dx (x = 0 to 9) or
  93. whatever...  I have not noticed any differences in any of
  94. them as of yet...
  95.  
  96. Next you get the main Telenet prompt, the '@' symbol.
  97.  
  98. From here, a PC-Pursuit user would type this:
  99.  
  100. C D/SSCCC/BB,PCP12345,ABCD1234
  101.  
  102. C is for Connect. With This command, you can also log on to
  103. many of the major computer services such as Delphi,
  104. QuantumLink, and CompuServe.
  105.  
  106. The D is for Dial. Simple
  107. The slash divides commands and parameters on Telenet
  108. The SSCCC is SS= a two-letter state code and CCC= a three
  109. letter city code (more on these later)
  110.  
  111. The BB is either 3, 12 or 24, depending on the baud rates
  112. available for the particular PC-Pursuit accessible area code,
  113. and the baud rate you want (24, in most cases)
  114.  
  115. Now the good stuff...  The access codes and password.
  116.  
  117. The Access codes are ALWAYS in the format of PCPxxxxx.
  118. Always.
  119.  
  120. The PASSWORDS are varied. They are initially registered to
  121. the user in the format of XXXXyyyy where XXXX are four
  122. letters and yyyy are four digits...
  123. NOW, your saving grace from people changing their passwords
  124. is that Telenet charges $5.00 for each password change...
  125. So this helps...

  127. Other commands available on Telenet are D (when not preceded
  128. by a C) for Disconnect and HANGUP, which does just that.
  129.  
  130. Now that you have gotten your very own PC-Pursuit account,
  131. you need to know how to use the damn thing.

  135. Sure, you can issue the command from Telenet to dial the city
  136. and baud that you want, but after it gives you the CONNECTED
  137. message, you are as lost as a blind lesbian in a fish market.
  138.  
  139. No problem... From here on in, it's all peaches and cream.
  140. The modems use the Hayes AT command set...
  141.  
  142. To dial your number all you do is type in this:
  143.  
  144. ATDTxxxxxxx CR
  145.  
  146. xxxxxxx = the phone number of the board you want to call.
  147.  
  148. Easy, eh? And your other major AT commands are available:
  149.  
  150. ATZ  Zaps the modem back to default settings
  151. ATH  Hangs up the modem
  152. A/   Repeats the last command given
  153. ATDP Dials pulse (WHY?!?)
  154. And so on.
  155.  
  156. When you want to connect to another city, Type '@' from the
  157. modem command mode, and then 'D <CR>' at the Telenet main
  158. prompt. Easy as pie.
  159.  
  160. So, now you are all set and take advantage of the generous
  161. service that another stupid multi-billion dollar corporation
  162. has bestowed upon us, the hackers of America.
  163.  
  164. Telenet also has a couple of nifty goodies that are available
  165. to the users of PC-Pursuit, and the general public. These
  166. are both modem lines.

  170. On this BBS you can actually register for PC-Pursuit, and
  171. find out a little about the system. It has no features, and
  172. is pretty boring. It might be fun to crash, though.

  175. At the Telenet '@' prompt, type: PC PURSUIT,YOURID,PASSWORD
  176. or call 703-689-3561.
  177. This BBS has new info for PC-Pursuit users (be they legal or
  178. not). It is advisable to keep a low profile on there, as they
  179. have had a few hackers just go nuts and bring themselves in
  180. the spotlight. Which is good, because the heat is on them,
  181. not the smart ones that keep a low profile and are quit.
